The best time of year to start is
September/October. We meet on Wednesday evenings in Didcot between September
and April to practice our
dances
for the next season and learn new
ones. We meet, usually twice a month
for 2 hours, in a community hall or school hall - the venue has varied over
the years depending on cost and convenience. We all dance border morris and
rapper
sword, including the musicians.
Between May and September we dance out all over the place, at folk festivals,
pubs, schools, barn dances, palaces,...
We car-share as much as possible.
We also have occasional summer practices in a garden when we want to.
Everyone
is expected to come to practices and to sign up for dance outs. New members
are welcome to dance outs and do the dances they have learned so far! Dance
outs can be a good time to watch the dances and learn them while contributing
to the percussion of the band and enjoying the atmosphere and company.
We aim that the income from bookings pays our annual membership of the Morris
Federation and our hall hire. No travel expenses are paid. When our modest
group expenses
are not covered by our income, everyone is required to all pay a contribution.
A couple of times a year we have purely 'social' events like a Christmas party or similar - and have done 'Friends and Family' barn dances where we invite anyone we want to for an evening barn dance with refreshments. To be honest, we don't need many 'social' events because we enjoy our time together at practices and dance-outs!
We look forward to welcoming you sometime
soon. Give it a go!
