They welcomed us to the annual Wittenham Free Charity
Music Festival, in the grounds of the Plough Inn, Long Wittenham, near Didcot,
Oxfordshire
- allegedly the
friendliest,
most enjoyable, eclectic and entertaining small festival anywhere. In 2009,
the festival raised £3,060 for local charities. The festival started
on the Friday evening and ran until late Sunday afternoon. They sold programmes,
raffle tickets, badges, hats and shirts and collected donations
in buckets by the busking spot we were are so they can support our chosen
charities The Oxfordshire
Befriending Network and Riding For The Disabled Association, Abingdon Group.
We danced from 5.50pm to 6.30pm in the busking area - and we were good. Hazel's
mum was well impressed!
If you took photos, please send them to us - 1000

OUR MEMBERS THERE:
Simon Thierry

Alan
and no Jamie!
All sticking together in Jacobs Ladder
Tinners Rabbit came out of the hat at this event -
With
40 minutes to fill we did all our current border dances - Jacobs Ladder,
Go Mauve, Tinners Rabbit and Just as the Tide. Rapper, RapperExtra
(with egg whisk & bully) and a musical interlude by the Elastikk
Band (Scattery Island, Killiecrankie & New Rigged Ship) filled
the time to perfection.
Elastikk Band - with Hazel next to the bucket just in case...?
Mark
Wilkin, Wittfest's busking organiser seemed happy with what we'd done,
and Hazel went round collecting money from the spectators in the official
Wittfest bucket which made Mark even happier.
Simon
mid-way through his impressive tree-felling impersonation
The Coxes and Thierry did a seriously slick rapper display near the beginning
of our programme but Hazel was too busy talking to take photographs and
Hazel's mum didn't take any because Hazel wasn't dancing. Sorry. So
here's a few of the
RapperExtra
display with Ben Josh Hazel Lissa and Thierry. (which are probably
better to look at anyway! Or not!)
The Extra in RapperExtra seemed to be the extra stepping
between the moves to cope with the shoe-losing, shoe-lace-discussing and
move
remembering.
The grand finale was the star-collapsing and sword-dropping after stepping
in the final line-up for what seemed like several times through the music
before Thierry worked out where we could stop! Awesome and entertaining
are two words that spring to mind.
