2010 Moira Furnace Folk Festival

As you will see in the photos, Lumbawakk had happy time at the second ever Moira Furnace Folk Festival. Ten of us caravanned and danced both days. Good camping, ceilidhs that were excellent and unforgettable, fair weather and a spectacular furnace made it difficult NOT to enjoy ourselves. There was lots to do - from singing sessions to listen to, toffee apples to munch, craft stalls to browse, Herbaceous Border and Step On Board, the Streams of Sound choir, one man mumming and the showers to dodge!

In return for three full hours dancing we got weekend passes to all the workshops, ceilidhs, concerts and free camping. Here are a few photos we took.
This first one is 'borrowed' from the official website http://www.moirafurnacefolkfestival.co.uk
We will probably get some more from Sid and Lynda but haven't got them yet...

On the campsite there was a playground for the under 14 year olds to enjoy...

Then there was a walk through the woods...

a bridge....

through more woods with these lovely potential morris sticks for Simon to photograph...

while Thierry took photos of his beloved wife and children instead...

then Lisa, Minkey and Jess pretended to be part of one of the spectacular woodland sculptures..
before we arrived at the reenactment ocamp where they did cannon and musket demonstrations...

and then we arrived at the spectacular Moira Furnace.

Here was one of our two dancing spots each day - the crowded courtyard. It did get busier. It's just that we didn't get photos when it was...

We tried to dance BIG to make it look like there were more people there.

Did it work?

We even borrowed Steve from Step On Board to boost the sound so everyone could hear us and he enabled us to do a crowd-pleasing synchronised double rapper routine.

We posed for a photo with him and tried to recruit him, but he was not swayed.

The star is held aloft while Simon is distracted by a giant ladybird. Look, people!

Yes, finally, a photo of the crowd that gathered to watch us.
They were next to the toilets. Maybe it was just the queue...

It was all a bit of an uphill struggle - as you can see there was quite a slope.

All around the courtyard were little shops - sweeties, cafe, pottery, trinkets... all hoping for extra trade from the festival goers - our spectators...

Still, we carried on having fun by joining in with other morris dancers from Herbaceous Border

Minkey and Mokey made friends with a morris meercat that belonged to a nameless lady.

Melissa and Jess chatted up a fine looking man and his little daughter who loved the monkeys.
Good choice I reckon.

Minkey sat with Lisa and did brain training. "Count the spectators" it was called.

Minkey and Mokey posed for photographs and were dazzled by the flashes.

And the band played on... and on... and on to the enjoyment of Colin in the Open Mic session in the adjacent marquee who came to tell us how much he'd enjoyed listening to us.
Nice of him eh? Steve who was doing the sound there later told us he couldn't really hear us though.

So we went on to our second location - the Woodman pub. For sale £225,000. The session ground to a halt and the musicians and singers poured out to watch.

Passing traffic ground to a standstill. Well it would have done if there'd been any.

But we danced big. And we danced energetically.

And we roared and we smiled. Then it rained and we went home to our caravans.

There was no shortage of things to do to have fun there. Hazel got bitten by a crocodile.

Jess and Lisa made blobs of clay...

into hemispheres...

and we're not quite sure what Lisa was holding... but Simon seemed to want it back...

then Jess did her very best 'hedgehog' face. Well done Jess.

Minkey had great fun trying on sunglasses to suit her new superstar celebrity persona.
Oh the flash of all those cameras!
