Friday 15th October - Cornerstone - "Didcot First" community awards evening
We were invited to do a 10 minute entertainment spot as the grand finale of a Business and Community Groups Awards evening at the Cornerstone's 200 seater auditorium. This event gave us good exposure locally without dancing on the streets! The award ceremony was a prestigious affair with local all-important celebrities and guests. There were 4 categories of award and between each category they featured a local act – a musical act, Didcot Diamonds Cheer Club, a juggler, and a dance(that's us!). They reserved Dressing Room One for us. We got 10 minutes for our spot - so did Noughts and Crosses and a double rapper.

At the practice a couple of days beforehand we asked our dancers to meet in the foyer at 8.30pm. Josh was busy gassing during our briefing, but we all were very patient repeating the arrangements especially for him. And he was there in good time despite having to interrupt his presence at a friends 18th birthday party to be with us. Simon arrived at 8.10pm and told us he had been late to work that morning because he had thought we were meeting at 8.30am. Sharp intake of breath. Is he really as stupid as that? No, he's just winding us up. Thankfully.

SO We met in the foyer at 8.30pm and had to get ready incredibly quicky as they were running 30 minutes ahead of schedule. We had been warned beforehand by the organiser Di Chesterman " I speak fast and so do some others but sometimes the other Acts over run – so timings can be a bit ‘flexible’." We were very well received - with clapping ALL the way through the rapper. Thierry nearly led us all into the toilet instead of backstage before we danced, we had fun wriggling our fluorescent tatters in the dark backstage, and Hazel got offstage shaking so much she couldn't press the security code into the Dressing Room lock. Super-cool Josh to the rescue. After the awards Elastikk Band (Thierry, Hazel, Alan and Lissa) played music in the bar taking compliments while award winners and losers networked, celebrated and socialised....We were especially pleased to see Jayne Manley from the Northmoor Trust looking suitably smug with an award for being Winners of the Ethical Stance Category, Community Class as we'd played for a barn dance for them in their Fison Barn the previous night.

Theatre Lovies were Alan, Josh, Ben, Sue, Simon, Lisa, Lissa, Jess,
Hazel, Sally and Thierry with Mokey and Minkey.

Minkey and Mokey particularly enjoyed the dressing room mirrors.

Sue and Jess were chilled about the whole thing - being stars was natural to them.

Josh posed for a change... Don't you just love that face!

Hazel and Lissa made themselves even more beautiful while...

...Thierry checked his head wasn't too shiny. Looks OK from the front...
