2010 - September - Wallingford Bunkfest

Many happy memories, many good encounters with people, and bucketloads of Lumbawakk style made this another Bunkfest to remember. Jackie, from Garston Gallopers, claimed to be a Lumbawakk cyber stalker and bought a Lumbawakk badge. What a lovely lady, but she's not quite in the same league as Joanne our original cyber-stalker from Garston Gallopers who bought three Lumbawakk badges - were they all for herself? Maybe next year, we'll get a dancing spot with Garston Gallopers at Bunkfest!!

More photos and videos will follow...

If you took photos, please send them to us - 1000 pixels wide is a nice size if you're not sure what we like!

On Friday night we all arrived and the younger members ate together. Alan cooked for them - pasties, cheesy pasta, and mixed veg followed by apple pie and cream. Yum yum.

Then Alan and James washed up the cooking stuff inside the caravan while Ben Jess, Lisa and Lissa washed up the crockery and cutlery just outside.

In the evening we all went to the ceilidh by The Monster Ceilidh Band, and Hazel wore James' hat for this photo between the beautiful Minkey and Mokey and Caroline peeping round the back.

Josh and James comparing tonsils again. Why has one got a torch and one got sunglasses?

Saturday dawned after a late night cards session by the lads in the Brunier awning.
We enjoyed a communal cereal and sausage butties breakfast on the field in bright sunshine with the buzzing of cars and wasps to keep us awake..
We ran an early morning workshop - 11am - in the Regal Centre

Then it was on to the Kinecroft Little Stage at 12.30 where we danced Jacobs Ladder.

Then we danced a double rapper - truly synchronised.

How's that for a nice line of dancers in step? Brilliant. And yes, it is Lumbawakk!

Then we danced Noughts And Crosses.

Our dancing partners were Plum Jerkum, pictured later on the main stage.

At 2pm we appeared on the Kinecroft Big Stage - Noughts and Crosses was our first dance.

This time our dancing partner was Royal Oak.

Here we are displaying during Reins, with Lisa just about keeping up with the girls.

After another faultless performance here's a nice line to finish, with Bob filming from the stage.

Minky and Mokey put on their best smiles for this photo with Jess, Lisa and Lissa at the Big Stage.

Then we rounded things off with Go Mauve.

At 3.30pm we danced with Hobos at the Market Place.

Thierry, Lissa, Hazel and Alan were the merry musicians for Lumbawakk.

Minkey danced Jacobs Ladder with Lisa, while Mokey played the violin with Lissa. She's very good.

Then there was another splendidly synchronised rapper display with Thierry, Sally, Sid, Ben and Josh on one side and...

Hazel, Jess, Lissa, Lisa and Sue on the other side.
Then we rounded off our day of displays with Go Mauve.

Saturday night brought a feast of pasta and sauce when James' mum brought James over to join us for the rest of Bunkfest. Adults ate an indian takeout in the Cox awning. Swiss roll and custard was much appreciated - by adults and youths alike!

Josh, Ben, Jess, Lisa and Lissa all washed up the crockery and cutlery.
James stood and had a drink having helped Alan wash up the cooking stuff inside.

After an excellent ceilidh by The Cock and Bull Band with Lumbawakk's friend Dave Jolly the adults spent a windy night in their caravans... thanks to the curry... while the lads played cards in the Brunier awning in the fresh air.

Sunday's communal cereal and bacon butties breakfst on the field had to swiftly relocate to inside the Brunier awning when the rain began.

We danced our first spot in the beer tent with Shinfield Shambles before the bar opened.

At 12.30pm it was still a bit showery. Here we are at the Dolphin doing synchronised rapper.

Again we were paired with Hobos - whose wonderful plinky music before the spot began had some of us dancing informally in the street. James learned to polka.
We danced Jacobs Ladder and Noughts & Crosses there too - trying to miss the puddles was only a partial success.

We were pleased our 1.30pm spot was under cover - at the Kinecroft Big Stage.
Here's the line of stickbashers and musicians.

We started with an outstanding display of Go Mauve - and the monkeys charmed the kiddies! During this time the sun came out and the field dried nicely.

Our dancing partners were Abingdon Traditional Morris Men. Here they are doing Maid Of The Mill. At the end the 'volunteered' maid received a kiss from each and every one of the men. Hazel and Sally dashed up to join the queue, but Hazel left pouting and disappointed.

Sally was more persistant though and waited until one of the men kissed her. ATMM loved the spontanaity. Here's Sally rubbing the kiss in!!

We had a little time to grab lunch at the Little Stage on the Kinecroft before our 2.30pm spot.

Josh was very tired and a bit off colour on Sunday.
Here he is in his makeshift shelter kipping and cuddling Minkey. Is he suckjing his thumb?

Lisa and Sue had a sneaky snuggle too.

At 2.30pm Beltane Border kicked off the spot with their usual inspirational dancing and music.

We dance Noughts and Crosses, then Rapper and our swan song for the festival was Go Mauve.

And here's our Wall of Sound - stick bashers and musicians.
James had nipped off early to pack up his tent! Sorry, palace.

The coats of the adults were swirling well - no doubt helped by the curry the night before!

Look at Simon's coat!! Thank goodness we were outdoors!!

Then we did a synchronised rapper which went very well...

and Josh had even woken up enough to smile. Now that's something to remember!!

And we did a new ending line - half of us facing the audience, the others facing Beltane Border because it would be unforgivably disrespectful to turn our backs to them!
