We started the day at Waitrose, dancing with Liddington Hall.
We did Noughts and Crosses, Somersault Rapper and Just as the Tide.
Our second spot was outside Sainsbury withVale Islanders and Kennet.
We'd danced with Vale Islanders a few nights before, so it was good to
see them again. We did Noughts and Crosses, Somersault Rapper and Just
as the
Tide. Kennet really
got
into
the grunting.
Or trying
to!
At every dancing venue, a steward from Icknield Way Morris Man welcomed
us, introduced us and kept the crowds in order! They were brilliant hosts
throughout the day. And the next day too!!
Our third spot was in the garden of the Blue Boar, again with Kennet.
So we changed our plans for doing Noughts and Crosses and Just as the Tide
again, but did the Fairy Dance and Jumping Rapper followed by Noughts and
Crosses. The Kennets gave up on grunting and sent their drummers to join
in which doubled the thickness of our Wall of Sound!
We had lunch at the museum, then danced with a little lad whose dad turned
out to be from Brighton morris men. Little laddie turned out to be
great fun. James and Josh did Tinners Rabbit with him, with Thierry and
Hazel playing and Mummy and Daddy taking photos. Well done.
We danced Rapper in the meuseum much to the surprise of the museum staff
and the diners. We collected money for the donkey sanctuary at Wallingford.
Then we went into the museum and found the stocks and the dressing up box...

These young men are really happy to dress up in victorian costume - we
laughed and laughed and laughed, especially when Matt couldn't get his
arms out of the coat...
Then it was off to the Bear forecourt where we danced with Cry Havoc.
We went back to our standard display for the day Noughts and Crosses, Somersault
Rapper and Just as the tide. With a really good crowd of passing shoppers,
we really enjoyed the session.
Then it was up-t-road to the Abingdon Arms to appear in the car park
with Kintbury and Cornucopia. Two lads joined in, on the sidelines under
the watchful gaze of the squires. One even borrowed Andy's coat and they
enjoyed sharing the limelight!
At The Wharf we danced with Berkshire Bedlam and Mr Hemmings from
Abingdon - two Cotswold morris sides.
There were a few bystanders, and
we were pretty
exhausted and hot when we arrived. The others teams were already there.
So the steward - a certain Ben Mabbett - put us on first. We were SO
grateful
to him.
He said it was so we could do most dances...Ta!
Revenge will be sweet... sometime...
We did double rapper, Fairy Dance and Noughts and Crosses, and flopped
in the shade!
Then we went up to the top end of Grove Street and got ready to process down
to Sainsbury for a dance by every team. We did Jumping Rapper much to the delight
of the crowd.
The undoubted Kings of the Day were Icknield Way Morris Men - 50 years
old. Our grateful thanks to our fine hosts, and to each and every steward
at
every dancing location and lunch. We had a great ceilidh in the evening
after a meal provided in the Old Mill Hall in Grove.

The next day brought the delights on White Horse Hill near Uffington.
We met at the crack of dawn.
10.30am.
We walked over hill and vale to reach the image of a white horse carved
into the Oxfordshire hillside, overlooking ancient burial sites with hillforts and
mysterious undulations...Enough.. Gather...OK Four teams of morris dancers
danced there and it was good. Very good.
The Pilgrimage...?
Icknield Way
Kintbury
Cornucopia
and Cornucopia Musicians
and Lumbawakk.
For a laugh we told Lynda we were all going there again on Monday
to dance again because it had been so good.
